Tracking, Telemetry & Command Services
Tracking, Telemetry & Command (TT&C) Stations are used to position, monitor and maintain the orbit of a satellite. Using its worldwide TT&C network, Telesat has the capability to provide primary TT&C services and various levels of back-up services to satellite operators who want to avoid making the investment in the hardware. Typically, some augmentation to Telesat's designated TT&C earth station facility is required to provide the service. Back-up TT&C services provide an extra level of protection to the satellite operator in the event of an emergency or any other event.
In
order to be ready to provide back-up services, Telesat's designated back-up
TT&C Earth Station is configured to receive tracking and telemetry data
from the customer's satellite on a continuous basis. All hardware systems are
regularly monitored as part of Telesat's routine preventative and corrective
maintenance to maintain the equipment in a constant state of readiness. In
the event of an emergency or other event, the designated Telesat TT&C Earth
Station has the capability to transmit commands and ranging signals to the
customer's satellite in addition to receiving telemetry and tracking data as
controlled by the prime or back-up SCC. The Telesat TT&C Earth Station
can remain in an active mode for an indefinite period of time depending on
the customer's circumstances.
