Canada's "little brothers"...in Space

Satellite Locations

In the Inuit dialect, Anik means “little brother.” Telesat's fixed satellite service (FSS) satellites are prefaced with the name Anik to symbolize Telesat's commitment to help Canadians communicate with each other.

Telesat launched its first satellite, Anik A1, in 1972.  The Anik F3 satellite was launched on April 9, 2007, and is providing a wide range of broadcasting, business communications, and Internet services to users across North America.

Nimiq 4 is currently under construction and slated for service in 2008.  Nimiq 4 will provide advanced services such as high-definition television, specialty channels and foreign language programming.

Telesat has recently announced plans to build and launch its 19th satellite, Nimiq 5.
